Pixel 3a: the helpful (and more affordable) phone by Google

Looks like Google is trying to move down-market with the new Pixel 3a. The base model costs $399 and the 3a XL is $479. This is a great move for a lot of people priced out of the Pixel 3.

From the look of it the specs aren’t that different:

  • Same 4GB LPDDR4 RAM, but no 128GB persistent storage option

  • Slower processor than the Pixel 3:
    Pixel 3a: Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 2.0GHz + 1.7GHz, 64Bit Octa-Core
    Pixel 3a XL: Qualcomm Snapdragon™ 845 2.5GHz + 1.6GHz

  • No wireless charging. Probably not a big deal unless you have a Pixel Stand

  • It appears to lack Advanced x-axis haptics for sharper/defined response

  • 3a only has one front facing camera instead of dual front cameras

  • 3a has a headphone jack—this has to be a plus for a ton of people!

Well, that’s infuriating. Especially, after trying to a replacement set of USB-C headphones.

Also, added a link to your post. I figured the Google blog post by the same name was relevant for your commentary.

Ah, thought I added that. Thanks!
