Boxes, Tape and Bubble-wrap: What other moving supplies do I need?

(Sam Solomon) #1

So, I’ve got a big move coming up—my first in a couple of years. What types of things do I need? I assume boxes, tape and bubble-wrap. Are there any preferences on those supplies? I saw these boxes on amazon and they have an A fakespot rating.

Update: So I purchased the Bankers Box bundle from Amazon. They are pretty clever—it doesn’t look like I will need tape for moving. They are also pretty sturdy and easy to put together.

Although if I were going to do anything different, I’d probably pay a bit more for a 6-pack of the large as opposed to an 8-pack of the medium.

While I can’t comment on the boxes you posted, there’s going to be more to moving than you think. A few quick things that come to mind.

  • Mattress Storage Bag
  • TV Moving Box
  • Gloves
  • Furniture Pads
  • Sharpies and Labels

You’ll probably need a million trashbags to either toss or give away things.

One thing I found invaluable when moving was Ziplock bags—both the small sandwich kind as well as the larger 1 gallon bags.

It was perfect for when things needed to be grouped together and provide an extra bit of padding for the move. Here are some things I used them for on my last move:

  • Silverware
  • Various cooking utensils
  • Pens and pencils
  • Cables for my playstation, sound system and other media
  • Table coasters
  • Batteries
  • Various items found in my junk cabinet

They are worth picking up. Trust me.
